Objective
The EpiSEM ACTION project intends to prototype a framework that enables the production of middleware components and the semi-automatic generation of customised application workflows for any Domain. The EpiSEM ACTION project will deliver to developers through the net, on an Open Source basis, this framework and the XML description of Business Entity & Activity Meta-data (structure and behaviour). This will be done for three Domains to ensure its genericity. Such an XML description (meta description of the meta-data) can then be interpreted by the framework to produce the Domain specific middleware components. A Dedicated Open Source Portal will be set up for dissemination and a demonstration involving environment applications in a seamless workflow will be performed to prove as well the framework engineering and the resulting components integration efficiency
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The project shall have a 24 month program structured in 6 Work Packages. WP0 : Management ensured by the project leader will take care of information system, relationship with the EC, technical reviews, link with Industry. administrative and technical documentation (agreements, financial and progress reports). WP1 : Requirements : The Requirements survey will benefit from previous enquiries in hydrocarbon Domain project. The group will realise a Multi Domain Survey to discover other domains interested by the realisation. One interesting target will be selected and detailed. The synthesis of the overall survey will drive the specifications. WP2 : Specifications : Project Vision, architecture of the system and XML representation of generic entities and activities will be specified. Critical points will be evaluated by proof of concepts mock up realisation and tests. It is planned to publish specifications very soon on an open source portal. A fundamental research and prototyping will be held to define and evaluate a way to express Workflow description. WP3: Development of the "distributed components" producer framework: will leads to complete the specifications, realise the design, develop and test the software components by iterative prototyping. The result will be a generic framework that enables the semi-automatic generation of customised applications Workflow. Quality control and code publication will be ensured on the Open source Portal. WP4: Demonstration an Validation: On an environmental use case how end-users can operate on real operational conditions. Developers will also test integration of the different components and iterate with framework developers. WP5: Dissemination and exploitation: Results and deliverables of EpiSEM ACTION will be disseminated through the Open Source Portal and other channels: academic partners will produce Scientific and Industrial Publications, other bodies will host meetings and participate to convention
s
MILESTONES
MS1: requirement survey, first mock-up based specs defining final orientations. MS2: first prototype realisations review, implementation plan revision. MS3: first presentation of the environmental demonstration. MS4: final review with improved demonstration. Results will be exposed on an Open Source Portal, including requirement survey, specs, design, architecture, source code, prototypes of the "distributed components" producer Framework,XML description of Business Entities and Activities for workflow services

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
