Intelligent Knowledge and Usage Mining driven Self-restructuring platform

Objective

The I-KnowUMine project aims to develop a novel and innovative generic platform for semi-automated re-engineering of on-line services based on Content, Knowledge and Web Site Metrics. I-KnowUMine will provide the opportunity for development of numerous on-line services ranging from electronic information services and electronic publishing to e-commerce and customer relations management applications. It will incorporate and integrate already tested technologies and research results on Content Management, Knowledge Management and Web Usage Mining in order to semi-automatically re-construct underlying information structure reflecting the needs of end-users or user groups for targeted information and affecting and improving overall performance, usability and user retention.

Objectives:
The proposed project aims to develop a novel and innovative generic platform for automated site re-engineering of on-line services based on Content, Knowledge and Web Site Metrics. I-KnowUMine will provide the basis for development of numerous on-line services ranging from electronic information services and electronic publishing to e-commerce and on-line collaborative applications. It will evaluate, customise and integrate cutting-edge technologies and incorporate research results on Content Management, Knowledge Management and Web Usage Mining in order to semi-automatically re-construct underlying information structure. So, the revised site structure will reflect the needs of end-users or user groups for targeted information while affecting and improving overall performance, usability and user retention. The platform will be validated by 2 European company users.

Work description:
The estimated duration of the project is 2 years. The work concerning the implementation of the project objectives will mainly be carried out in the following stages:
- project management aiming to day-to-day manage the project to ensure that the project meets its technical objectives and that all partners maintain high quality standards;
- development and integration, including:
1) user needs analysis and state-of-the-art and market analysis;
2) functional specifications & technical system design;
3) tools & platform development;
4) system integration and installation in user companies;
5) continuous evaluation and usability testing in co-operation with the user companies;
- dissemination activities, liaison & exploitation of results, including the preparation of a detailed exploitation plan, publications for S&T Journals and normal press, brochures explaining the concept, facilities and services of the I-KnowUMine project.

Milestones:
The project intends to create a revolutionised generic platform for development of user-centric on-line information services that will contribute towards the full-promising adaptive Web site implementation area.
