Virtual Organisations Cluster

Objective

The aim of VOSTER is to collect, analyse and synthesize the results from a number of leading European research projects on Virtual Organisation (VO), i.e. geographically distributed, functionally and culturally diverse, dynamic and agile organisational entities linked through ICT.

The scientific and technological objectives of VOSTER are to:
1. Consolidate VO related concepts and their relationships, VO types, characteristics and indicators;
2. Identify and recommend useful approaches for VO modelling;
3. Identify relevant technologies and standards and assess their potential for VOs;
4. Define functions of VO infrastructures and suggest ways to implement them; and
5. Promote VO approaches in European industries.

Work description:
VOSTER consists of 6 Work Packages:
- WP1 Virtual Organisation Concepts
- WP2 Virtual Organisation Modelling
- WP3 Technologies and Standards for Virtual Organisations
- WP4 Virtual Organisation Infrastructures
- WP5 Dissemination and Implementation
- WP6 Project Management

Each one of the technical Work Packages 1-4 proceeds in parallel and is broken down into similar kind of tasks:

- Information acquisition: Collect information on from ongoing and recently completed RTD, Cluster projects and other sources. Organise information and make it available to participants via the project intranet services.

- Analysis: Identification of relevant information for VOs.

- Synthesis: Develop a common framework for WP issues and present findings in it.

- Reporting: Prepare a public report.

WP5 includes tasks:
Communication platform;
Dissemination;
Cluster activities;
Implementation planning.

WP6 includes: Project Coordination;
Administration by partners;
On-going project Evaluation and Assessment.

In order to be able to publish results as soon as possible and stimulate a large audience the technical work is executed in two iterative cycles. In order to enable maximum information sharing and synergy between the participants intermediate draft and working versions of deliverables will be made available within the consortium before issuing the final version to the Commission.

Milestones:
The project is planned to progress in there month periods, with deliverables from WP1-4 every thee month starting from M6.

Major milestones:
- M12 with Synthesis reports from all WP1- 4 and
- M24 Synthesis reports from all WP1- 4 from the second iteration.
- M30 Final reports will be published.

Results will be collected for biannual reviews, VO Cluster workshops and Newsletters at M6, M12, M18, M24, M30.
