Objective
AGNULA has been conceived to support the development of derived distribution of Debian GNU/Linux and Red Hat GNU/Linux dedicated to audio and multimedia - such distribution will be called DeMuDi (after Debian Multimedia Distribution) and ReHMuDi (after Red Hat Multimedia Distribution) - with the following features: easy to use (auto-installing, with auto-configuration, plug-and-play), full-featured GNU/Linux system (completely configurable and customisable, reliable and secure, strongly linked to networking the internet, easy to upgrade); as in all Debian and in most Red Hat distribution, most of the software is released with GNU/GPL licence and all included software is freely redistributable; the source for most software is accessible.
Objectives:
The purposes of AGNULA can be summarized as follows:
1. Technological objectives. The main objective is to support the development of GNU/Linux distributions completely dedicated to audio applications;
2. Scientific objectives. The main scientific objective is to provide coordinated access to the widest combination of free audio software in a coherent environment. This will enhance state-of-the-art research and development in the audio field;
3. Cultural objectives. Providing a audio system based on Libre Software will demonstrate the important contribution of Libre Software to truly creative usage of applications, such as the one expected by professionals and amateurs from audio computing; for the first time, users will be able to completely control, customize and adapt audio applications to their needs and to the fullest extent - reaching far more original and creative results than with pre-canned proprietary software.

Furthermore, complying with the Libre Software paradigm, the AGNULA project will respect the following rules
:* freely distributable (but non-Libre Software) packages will be clearly marked as such so that the end-user will be informed about their status;
* freely distributable (but non-Libre Software) packages are only included when no usable Libre Software solution exists to clearly demonstrate the fields in which Libre Software still needs to improve;
* whenever there is a Libre Software solution (even if it is slightly less performative), it should be adopted as the standard. Non-Libre Software programs should only be provided if they add some very important functionality.
The AGNULA project will also produce several versions of the distributions: from complete ISO images distributed in CD-ROM and/or downloaded from AGNULA servers to package upgrading from the Internet to 'live' distributions available in ISO images for download oral ready burned on CD. A 'live' distribution is a particular kind of distribution, which allows test-driving it without installation onto a hard disk. Potential users will be able to test DeMuDi / ReHMuDi features without committing to a complete installation.

M4: Platform porting pre-release Presentation and Dissemination (end of Month 19);
M5: Platform porting final Presentation and Dissemination (end of Month 23).
