Towards Next Generation Knowledge Management

Objective

The VISION project will provide a strategic roadmap towards next-generation organisational knowledge management. VISION pursues a cyclic and incremental approach for reviewing existing show cases (research projects, products, etc.) and state-of-the-art technology. The strategic roadmap will reflect the different partner's viewpoints within the VISION network. The overall approach will target on context- and location-sensitive solutions for the acquisition, sharing, trading and delivery of knowledge to support worker, business innovation and entrepreneurship. The results of the VISION roadmap project will provide guidelines for enabling ambient access to knowledge within next-generation applications. VISION will prepare the ground for future research and development activities and provide recommendations for integrated projects in the context of organisational knowledge management. OBJECTIVES
The VISION project will provide a strategic roadmap towards next-generation organisational knowledge management. Objectives of VISION are:
-review existing show cases in the context of organisational knowledge management
-review state-of-the-art in the fields of Semantic Web technology, knowledge discovery, processes and groupware and mobile technologies, build bridges between the fields
-incrementally enlage the network with partners with focus on extending show cases and state-of-the-art technology (e.g. HCI, agents, sociology, etc.)
-design roadmap for next generation organisational knowledge management to prepare the ground for future RTD- develop KM maturity model for next-generation organisational knowledge management- provide recommendations for integrated project proposal

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The VISION project will provide a strategic roadmap towards next-generation organisational knowledge management. VISION pursues a cyclic and incremental approach for reviewing existing show cases (research projects, products, etc.) and state-of-the-art technology. The approach pursued by VISION is separated into four cyclic phases:
(i) Analyse existing show cases (products of partners, research projects, thematic networks, etc.) and provide a coherent view on the experiences made within these show cases
(ii) Review state-of-the-art technology fields, building on methods and techniques, including ontology and metadata technology in the context of Semantic Web Standards, automated knowledge discovery technology (Data, Text and Web mining), mobile technology, groupware and workflow technology,
(iii) Bring existing show cases and technologies together in the form of a roadmap to prepare the ground for future EU RTD research activities and a strategy for a ten-year period.
(iv) Develop a knowledge management maturity model, where the actual state of technology and show cases is mapped onto the relevant phases from R&D, trial, best practices to followers. With this approach strategic roadmap will reflect the different partner's viewpoints within the VISION network and provide a coherent view onto the field of organisational knowledge management.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
