The energy efficient ship

Objective

The industrial objective of this proposal is to participate in systems identification, modelling, optimization and validation for the energy-environment system in transport - in particular ships for inland waterways and shortsea traffic. The state of the art considers only energy consumption and thus savings potential in the ship's operational life. Little attention has been focussed on a suitable model framework to aid in construction of the vessels - in particular embodied energy - energy consumed in extracting and fabricating the components for the ship and joining the parts together into a ship, and later for the scrapping of the ship. Two very excellent opportunities exist for walidation activities in real-life industrial planning environnent: Diesel-electric propulsion, comparing the embodied energy in cheap high-speed to expensive medium speed engines, and the bulk transport of cement with either cheap pneumatic/expensive mechanical loading/unload.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
