Self Help Energy Efficiency Business Advisor

Objective

The objective of the proposal is to develop a simple yet powerful technique for SMEs to monitor and analyse their energy consumption using readily available d ata. This will then allow SMEs to apply the same technical standards, technique s and expertise to the monitoring and analysis of energy effficiency as is curr ently available to large firms. Monthly data (utility bill data and producti on data) and other data about the company will be used to produce a breakdown o f a company's energy consumption, highlighting areas where energy effficiency m easures could be implemented. Single and multiple variant regression will be used to identify the weather, production and fixed related energy consumption. From the analysis a detailed breakdown of energy consumption within the compan y will be possible. The project will develop a series of common patterns of con sumption and recommend how to reduce energy waste. This will include practical examples (via Video clips) of how to do this. Improving energy efficiency in small businesses is a notoriously diffficult thing to achieve. It will only be successful if businesses are able to analyse their consumption simply and with the minimum of time. To do this they need to use existing information The p roject will develop such a simple yet very powerful tool for small businesses. It will be tested and evaluated with businesses in the UK, Spain and Portugal. The research will be undertaken by De Monffort University, Citeve and the Unive rsitat Autonoma de Barcelona. London Electricity will provide additional suppor t. A CD rom that provides a rough mock-up of the capabilities of the product is enclosed. This is in the form of a Microsoft PowerPoint 97 presentation. In addition the multiple variant regression element of the project can be found o n the internet at Java is needed to run this , therefore it will not work with windows 3.1(opens in new window). The product will be availabl e to be used be European SMEs by month 24 of the project.
