Improvement of multifunctional heat exchanger applied in industrial processes

Résultats exploitables

A wide variety of industrial processes make use of heat exchangers to perform tasks such as the concentration of substances by evaporation or the polymerisation of chemical products. These processes use significant amounts of energy, which usually amount to 6-10% of final concentrated product cost. This project has produced new design concepts for improved heat and mass transfer in multifunctional heat exchangers, which will lead to considerable energy savings for industry. In this project heat exchangers which combine heat and mass transfer during evaporation and chemical reaction were studied. Both of these processes consume large amounts of energy, therefore improving equipment efficiency can significantly reduce operating costs. Also, for the chemical reaction process, energy has to be supplied as uniformly as possible in the reactive melt to avoid local superheating and local sub-cooling. This project has evaluated several new design concepts for multifunctional heat exchangers, which improve heat and mass transfer, in terms of transfer performance and energy savings. w
