Project demonstrating the total use of rice husk as an agricultural by-product for its industrial use in the automotive and packaging sector

Objective

The aim of this project is to prevent the degradation of the Environment, and more specificaly of the Region of Montsia and the Natural Park of the Ebro Delta, taking advantage of the husk for industrial use, thereby maintaining the rice cultivation which in turn helps to preserve the marshy arcas of the Ebro Delta.

The Cámara Arrocera de Amposta is the most important rice-producing Cooperative in Spain and the leading company in Catalonia in terms of Market Garden Products. It has 4.883 associates and works a surface area of 5.873 Hectares of rice fields and 1.550 Hectares of Vegetable Garden. In the case in hand, the cultivation of rice may be regarded as totally environment-friendly since it helps to conserve the marshlands of the Ebro Delta, regarded as the second most important Damp Area in Spain by dint of its Flora and Fauna. In view of the new worldwide policies, any added value will be beneficial and will contribute to the conservation of the family-type agricultural economy in the Delta area and in the Region in question. The Cámara Arrocera is conducting reconversion project adapted to the Environmental Protection Policy and to the conservation of the family-type agricultural economy so as to be ready for the coming decade. -Cámara Arrocera de Amposta currently produces: -45.000 t. of Rice with Husk. -23.000 t. of market garden produce. -The amount of Husk obtained following the making of the white husk rice. -The Market Gardening Division of Cámara Arrocera also plans to use NATURE-PACK's packaging elements to distribute its fresh products in the market.
- Furthermore, the Clients Consumers themselves, when purchasing the Cámara Arrocera-packeged rice, indirectly contribute to conserving the Ecosystem of the Region of Montsià, and more specifically the Ebro Delta and its Natural Park.
- With this measure the Cámara Arrocera will complete a whole cycle of byproduct (Rice Husk) recycling, with all the advantages that this will bring to each one of the sectors and even more to contribute to the conservation of the Environment in one of the best Marsh Areas of the European Union.
