Objective
Project's aim and anticipated results:
- Help for the integration of hog wastes environmental management within the breeding farms;
- Propose to all European breeders global valorisation solutions for pigs manure;
- Suppress nuisances related to traditional manure application methods.
The ECOLIZ process deals with air, water and soil pollutions related to animal manure production, especially pig manure.
Pollution caused by manure is hard to control under its two major aspects: odours, and pollution of water and soil.
The ECOLIZ process is adapted for a use in farms and can easily be integrated in the breeders' normal work. On a technical point of view, the process consists in a separation of manure into two deodorized phases: a liquid phase that can generally be applied without any risk of pollution and a solid matter that can be used to produce an organic fertilizer to be sold outside the production zone.
A final treatment can be used to concentrate ammoniacal nitrogen from the liquid phase to use it in mineral fertilizer production.
The process brings into play a new patented type of filter, simple to use and relatively inexpensive.
The designing and validation phase for the process is completed. Finally, it still has to be assessed that the process is reliable in real-scaled demonstration operations in the breeding sites. This demonstration implies the manufacturing of two prototype filters, with a capacity of 5000 to 10000 m3 per year, from which one would be fixed and the other one mobile.
The fixed prototype would allow to confirm the results obtained on the pilot, in real working conditions. The mobile filter would allow to take into account the variability of the effluents by testing the process in several farms around in Europe. It is also planned to test the filtration with other types of agricultural or industrial effluents in different sites (breeding farms, slaughter-houses, chemical plants...) to study their depollution with the ECOLIZ process.
