Objective
TO DEVELOP MATERIAL AND METHODS FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF INSECT DAMAGES ON FOREST TREES AND WOOD.
1. FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF DETERRENTS AND THEIR USE IN FOREST PROTECTION.
DETERRENT SUBSTANCES BASED ON CRUDE TURPENTINE FROM THE KRAFT PULPING PROCESS WILL BE DEVELOPED FURTHER TOWARDS HIGHER EFFECTIVITY, AND EFFORTS WILL BE MADE TO IDENTIFY THE BIOLOGICALLY MOST ACTIVE COMPONENTS. THE SPECIFIC DETERRENT EFFECT AGAINST VARIOUS GROUPS OF ANIMALS WILL BE INVESTIGATED. METHODS TO USE DETERRENTS FOR PROTECTION OF TREES AND WOOD WILL BE STUDIED.
2. DEVELOPMENT OF DISPENSERS FOR SEMIOCHEMICALS.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW DISPENSER DESIGNS WITH AJUSTABLE RELEASE RATES AND LONG-TERM RELEASE CAPACITY WILL BE CONTINUED.
3. SYNTHESIS AND EVALUATION OF PHEROMONES AND STRUCTURALLY RELATED COMPOUNDS.
PHEROMONE COMPONENTS OF BEETLES AND STRUCTURALLY RELATED COMPONENTS WILL BE SYNTHESIZED, STRUCTURE-ACTIVITY RELATIONSHIPS WILL BE STUDIED, AND COMPOUNDS FOR PRACTICAL USE WILL BE EVALUATED IN FIELD TESTS.
4. POPULATION STUDIES.
THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS METHODS USING SEMIOCHEMICALS ON THE POPULATIONS OF FOREST INSECTS WILL BE STUDIED. THIS COMPRISES EVALUATION OF SUCH METHODS ON BARK BEETLE POPULATIONS AND THE COMBINED USE OF ATTRACTANTS AND DETERRENTS OR INSECTICIDES. THE POTENTIAL USE OF SEMIOCHEMICALS FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF POPULATION ESTIMATES WILL BE EVALUATED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
