BREEDING OF MEDITERRANEAN FIRS.

Objective

TO FIND OUT WHICH SPECIES, PROVENANCES, ECOTYPES ARE BEST SUITED TO THE ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF MEDITERRANEAN AREAS.

RESEARCH WORK WILL BE CONCENTRATED ON:

- BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS (TERPENNES, ISOENZYMES) OF SPECIES PROVENANCES AND ECOTYPES.
- STUDIES OF THE GROWTH PHYSIOLOGY IN THE NURSERY WITH SPECIAL REGARD TO THERMIC AND PHOTOPERIODIC BEHAVIOUR
- PHENOTYPIC SELECTION OF NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL STANDS OF DIFFERENT SPECIES AND ESTABLISHMENT OF SEED ORCHARDS POSSIBLE ARTIFICIAL HYBRIDISATION IN ORDER TO STRENGHTEN DROUGHT RESISTANCE.
