CREEP AND TIME TO FAILURE IN WOOD AND WOOD PRODUCTS.

Objective

TO ESTABLISH MORE PRECISE ESTIMATES OF CREEP AND DURATION-OF-LOAD FACTORS, USED IN ALMOST ALL TIMBER DIMENSIONING CALCULATIONS IN EUROPE.

A.- INVESTIGATION OF THE SENSITIVITY OF VARIOUS SIZES OF STRUCTURAL TIMBER TO THE ADDITIONAL CREEP COMPONENTS WHICH RESULT FROM MOISTURE CHANGES. THIS WILL PROVIDE A BASIS FOR ASSESSING THE EXTENT TO WHICH FLUCTUATING MOISTURE CONDITIONS NEED TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR WHEN ASSIGNING CREEP AND DURATION-OF-LOAD FACTORS IN DESIGN CODES FOR STRUCTURAL TIMBERWORK.

B.- TESTWORK ADOPTING METHODS AND PROCEDURES USED IN PREVIOUS CREEP WORK ON PARTICLE BOARD, THEREBY PERMITTING DIRECT AND DETAILED COMPARISON BETWEEN THE RESULTS OF THE PROPOSED AND PREVIOUS WORK. THE EFFICACY OF FITTING VARIOUS RHEOLOGICAL AND MATHEMATICAL MODELS TO THE TEST DATA WILL BE EVALUATED.

C.- BEHAVIOUR OF THE MATERIAL ITSELF IN VARYING CLIMATIC CONDITIONS.
