LAMINATED TIMBER BY MICROWAVES.

Objective

UPGRADING OF SMALL DIAMETER LOGS BY LAMINATION AND CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION OF MINI GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER BY USE OF MICRO-WAVES TECHNOLOGY.

AN EXPLORATORY RESEARCH WORK CARRIED OUT BY CTIB, THE EOLAS AND MR. SAGOT (CONSULTANT ENGINEER), HAS DEMONSTRATED THE PRACTICAL FEASABILITY OF THIS SYSTEM. ON THE BASIS OF THIS INFORMATION, IT APPEARS CLEARLY THAT LAMINATION AND CONTINUOUS PRODUCTION BY USE OF MICRO-WAVES TECHNOLOGY CAN BE DEVELOPED WITH A VIEW TO AN INDUSTRIAL USE, UNDER THE CONDITION TO HAVE AT ONE'S DISPOSAL SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF THE NUMEROUS PARAMETERS WHICH CAN INTERFERE IN THE PROCESS.
TO THIS END THE CONSIDERED RESEARCH WILL BE CARRIED OUT AT DIFFERENT LEVELS, PARTLY SIMULTANEOUSLY, I.E. :
A) EXPLORATION OF THE PHYSICAL PHENOMENA IN CONNECTION WITH MICRO-WAVES. DEFINITION OF THE "ENERGY - DURATION" PARAMETERS;
B) SYSTEMATIC LABORATORY EXPERIMENTATION OF THE PARAMETERS IN CONNECTION WITH THE FORM AND THE KIND OF THEUSED LAMELLAE. SYSTEMATIC LABORATORY EXPERIMENTATION OF THE PARAMETERS IN CONNECTION WITH RELATED PRODUCTS (FOR INSTANCE : GLUES, PRESERVATION PRODUCTS,... ) AND DEFINITION OF THE DIFFERENT PARAMETERS.
C) LABORATORY EXPERIMENTATION OF THE POLYMERISATION TECHNIQUES USING MICRO-WAVES.
D) DESIGN OF PRESSING AND ADVANCE SYSTEMS SUITABLE WITH MICRO-WAVES.
E) SYSTEMATIC VERIFICATION OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF GLUING ELEMENTS, CONSIDERING THE DIFFERENT PARAMETERS.
F) DEFINITION OF A METHODOLOGY FOR DYNAMIC POLYMERISATION PROCESSES.
