VALORIZATION AND INDUSTRIAL REUSE OF PLASTIC WASTE USING THE COEXTRUSION PROCESS FOR THICK-WALL PROFILES.

Objective

TO DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY OF THE PRODUCTION OF VERY THICK PROFILES COEXTRUDED WITH PLASTIC WASTE AND HIGH QUALITY INDUSTRIAL WASTE.

THE PROFILES WILL BE COEXTRUDED WITH:

INSIDE: A THICK PROFILE OF PLASTICS WASTE

OUTSIDE: A FINE SKIN OF VIRGIN POLYMER OR A HIGH QUALITY INDUSTRIAL WASTE

THE INSIDE PROFILE CAN BE MADE BY EXTRUSION OR FLOW-MOLDING. THE OUTSIDE SKIN WILL BE COEXTRUDED ENVELOPING THE INSIDE PROFILE.
THE ECONOMICAL STUDY OF THIS PROCESS HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT THE PROFILE CAN BE PRODUCED AT 60% THE COST OF THE SAME PROFILE PRODUCED WITH VIRGIN POLYMER BOTH HAVING COMPARABLE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES.
THE SKIN-EFFECT OF THE OBTAINED SANDWICH WILL FURTHER BE STUDIED IN TERMS OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES LIKE STIFFNESS AND IMPACT STRENGHT.
CRIF, PLASTICS RESEARCH CENTER AND SA RHEO (FN-SUBSIDIARY) HAVE THE PATENTS AND THE KNOW-HOW REQUIRED TO CONDUCT THIS PROJECT.
THEY HAVE IN THE PAST DEMONSTRATED THEIR CAPABILITIES TO PRODUCE, BY INJECTION MOULDING A SIMILAR SANDWICH USING A MIXED PLASTIC WASTE COVERED WITH VIRGIN HDPE AND PP.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
