IMPROVING SORTING METHODS OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTES COMPONENTS IN VIEW OF THEIR VALORIZATION. TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF THE WHOLE PROCESS

Objective

TO INCREASE THE RATIO QUALITY-PRICE OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTES (MSW) SORTING BY A BETTER RECOVERY OF CERTAIN MSW MATERIALS.

THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME PRESENTED AIMS ON ONE HAND:

- AT THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF TECHNICAL EQUIPMENTS FOR PUTTING INTO PRACTICE THE PRINCIPLES OR PROCESSES DESCRIBED ABOVE; THESE EQUIPMENTS WILL FORM PART OF A SORTING UNIT OF THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF MSW (SCRAP IRON, GLASS, PLASTIC MATERIALS, ORGANIC MATTER...) IE:
- SORTING OF BROKEN GLASS FROM THE HEAVY FRACTION.
- THE MECHANICAL MIXING OF ORGANIC MATTER AND PLASTICS.
- THE SEPARATION OF THESE TWO LAST FRACTIONS BY FLOWING OR SCREENING TECHNIQUES.
- THE VALORIZATION OF THE FRACTION RICH IN PLASTICS BY THE CEP ADOUR AND INTRADEL TECHNOLOGIES.

AND ON THE OTHER HAND:

- AT THE TESTING ON FULL SCALE OF THE OVERALL EFFICIENCY OF A SORTING UNIT UPSTREAM OF A COMPOST FACTORY.

THE DESIGN AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A COMPLETE SORTING UNIT, WITH A CAPACITY OF 20 TO 25 THOUSAND TONS/YEAR, INCORPORATING THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS CARRIED OUT ON EACH EQUIPMENT DESCRIBED ABOVE, WILL IMPLY AN INVESTMENT OF ABOUT 10 TO 12 MILLION FRENCH FRANCS (VAT NOT INCLUDED)

FROM AN ECONOMIC POINT OF VIEW, THE VALORIZATION OF MSW COMPONENTS WILL LEAD TO A DECREASE OF THE COST OF TREATMENT OF MSW OF 36 TO 59 % (PER TON) FOR LOCAL AUTHORITIES CONCERNED, IE AN ECONOMY OF 0.98 TO 1.58 MILLION FF ON THE BASIS OF 20.000 TONS PER ANNUM. IT WILL IMPLY, FOR INDUSTRIALS, USING THESE SECONDARY RAW MATERIALS, A CUTTING DOWN OF EXPENSES NOT EVALUATED NOW.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
