CERAMIC/METAL BONDING BY HOT ISOSTATIC PRESSING

Objective

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH IS TO DEVELOP A PROCEDURE FOR BONDING CERAMIC/METAL AND CERAMIC/CERAMIC THAT CAN BE INDUSTRIALIZED, APPLIED TO ALL GEOMETRIES AND QUALITIES OF MATERIALS, AND WHICH IMPROVES THE BONDING QUALITY.
A numerical elastoplastic model was developed, obtaining good predictions on the formation of cracks in ceramic metal bonding by hot isostatic pressing (HIP).
TWO VARIANTS ARE CONSIDERED:

- BONDING OF TWO OR SEVERAL SOLID PIECES.

- BONDING OF A SOLID PIECE TO SOME OTHER ONE, UNDER POWDER FORM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BONDING OPERATION. HIP SIMULTANEOUSLY ENSURES THE POWDER DENSIFICATION AND THE DIFFUSION BONDING OF THE COUPLE OF SOLID PIECES.

THE PROCEDURE ALLOWS TO ACHIEVE BONDING, COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE BY CLASSICAL TECHNIQUES. FROM AN ECONOMICAL STANDPOINT THE PROCEDURE IS VIABLE BECAUSE THERE IS COMPLETE ABSENCE OF TOOLS. THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS THE TIGHTNESS AT THE JOINTS, THE GAS PRESSURE SERVES AS A TOOL.
SEVERAL COUPLES OF PIECES MAY BE TREATED SIMULTANEOUSLY IN A SINGLE OPERATION OF HOT ISOSTATIC PRESSING.
THESE ADVANTAGES MAY ANTICIPATE SUBSTANTIAL COST AND FABRICATION DELAYS REDUCTIONS, AND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF AN EXCEPTIONAL BONDING QUALITY WHICHEVER THE SHAPES OF PIECES AND THE NATURE OF THE MATERIALS MAY BE.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
