IMPROVEMENT OF CIRCUITS FOR THE RECYCLING OF PLOMBI-ZINCIFEROUS BY-PRODUCTS AND RESIDUES IN PRIMARY SMELTING FURNACES.

Objective

DEVELOPMENT OF RECYCLING PROCESSES TAKING IN CONSIDERATION THE CHANGE IN COMPOSITION OF SECONDARY FEED MATERIALS (LEAD AND ZINC COMPOUNDS).

THE PROGRAMME IS SPLIT IN TWO PARTS:

A - WATER-JACKET (LEAD FURNACE)

THE FACED MATERIALS ARE BASICALLY BATTERY OXIDES (SPANISH PLANT), FURNACE FUMES AND TETRAETHYL LEAD METALLURGY OXYCHLORIDES (NOYELLES-GODAULT). THESE PRODUCTS ARE RICH ENOUGH IN LEAD THEREFORE THE PHYSICAL PROCESSING IS BASICALLY A CONDITIONING PROCESS.

THE MAIN WORKING STEPS ARE:

- CHEMICAL AND MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MATERIALS - CONDITIONING

- REACTION OF PRODUCTS IN A REDUCTION FURNACE INCLUDING:
. STUDY OF SIMULATION USING A LABORATORY FURNACE AND MODELISATION
. STUDY OF THE CHEMICAL REACTION AND OF THE HEAT BALANCE
. DETAILED DEFINITION OF NEW OPERATING PARAMETERS.

B - IMPERIAL SMELTING (ZINC FURNACE)

EMPHASIS WILL BE GIVEN ON RECYCLING THE DROSSES OBTAINED IN VARIOUS STEPS OF THE PROCESS.
OTHER ZINC-BEARING RESIDUES (FLUE DUSTS, GALVANIZATION ASHES...) WILL ALSO BE EXAMINED.

SEVERAL PRETREATMENTS OF THE ZINC-BEARING RESIDUES WILL BE EXAMINED BEFORE CONDITIONING (PHYSICAL SEPARATION, LEACHING)

FROM THE METALLURGICAL POINT OF VIEW, IT IS NECESSARY TO DEFINE THE BEST AIR OR OXYGEN BLOW SETTINGS IN ORDER TO CONTROL THE REACTIONS OF THE LIQUID-GAS EQUILIBRIUM. TESTS WILL THEREFORE BE CARRIED OUT IN LABORATORY-FURNACE ON THE REACTION OF DIFFERENT PRODUCTS HAVING BEEN SELECTED DEPENDING ON RESULTS OF THE PRECEDING PHASE.

FOR BOTH PARTS (A+B) ECONOMIC STUDIES OF THE NEW PROCESSING ROUTES WILL BE CARRIED OUT.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
