MULTIDATASET ANALYSIS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF METALLOGENIC, ECONOMIC MODELS AND EXPLORATION CRITERIA FOR GOLD DEPOSITS IN WESTERN EUROPE

Objective

This project is aimed at the development of metallogenic models and sets of exploration criteria suitable for gold exploration in Europe using multiple datasets (including mineral occurrence geological, geochemical, geophysical and remotely sensed datasets).

Research of this type has been successfully performed in the Armorican and Central massifs in France and in southern Scotland. The initial studies have limited scope since they were based on only a few pathfinder elements in a restricted range of tectonic settings. Additional studies are proposed involving the use of a more comprehensive range of datasets and more sophisticated data processing methods including quantitive 3-dimensional modelling as well as economic models. Geochemical (2 to 2.5 million items of data), geophysical, geological and remotely sensed data (for a combined area of more than 100 to 150 Km{2}) will be analyzed and integrated for the regional study of gold metallogenesis and the identification of new areas for detailed follow up. Areas selected for study are the Hercynides of France (Armorican and Central massifs), Spain and Portugal, and the Caledonides of Britain and Ireland.

The work will be in 5 phases: collection of datasets; evaluation of datasets; development of economic models preliminary multidataset analysis in relation to economic models; and development of metallogenic models exploration criteria and ground truth evaluation.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
