Objective
A recent Round Robin Test supported by the BCR Programme of a domestic gas boiler has shown that the present reproducibility of European laboratories is about 4.5% (absolute value) on efficiency measurements. The application of the Council directive 92/42/EEC on efficiency requirements for new hot water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels may therefore lead to a serious conflict between the certification authorities, the manufacturers, and the laboratories for the attribution of stars for every 3% (absolute value) of efficiency.
The objective of the project is the improvement of the currently applied test methods including the development and validation of a new concept of boiler testing to ensure a fair and realistic assessment of boiler efficiencies with a reproducibility of less than 2.5%. The concept will take into account the energy of electric contributions to the heat balance and will include methods for the calculation of accuracies associated with the testing.
The results of the projects will be made available to CEN.
