Objective
TO DEFINE GENETICAL CONDITIONS OF CHROMITE CONCENTRATION IN OPHIOLITIC COMPLEXES AND TO ESTABLISH THE MAGMATIC, STRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL CONTROLS OF THIS MINERALISATION, WITH THE AIM OF DETERMINING PROSPECTION GUIDES.
THIS IS A JOINT PROJECT INVOLVING ALSO THE BUREAU DE RECHERCHES GEOLOGIQUES ET MINIERES, ORLEANS (CONTRACT NO MSM 038 F), THE OPEN UNIVERSITY (CONTRACT NO MSM 108 UK) AND THE UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN (CONTRACT NO MSM 120 DK). IT CONTINUES RESEARCH INITIATED IN OMAN AND GREECE BY THE SAME GROUPS (PRIMARY RAW MATERIALS PROGRAMME 1978-1981).
FIELD WORK BY ALL 4 GROUPS WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN NEW CALEDONIA. RESEARCH UNDER THIS CONTRACT CONCERNS:
- THE STUDY OF GEOPHYSICAL PARAMETERS AND METHODS APPLICABLE TO CHROMITE ORES AND ASSOCIATED ROCKS. FIELD MEASUREMENTS AS WELL AS LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS WILL BE CARRIED OUT. IN PARALLEL, A THOROUGH THEORETICAL AND NUMERICAL TREATMENT OF THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS AND THE RESULTS OF FIELD MEASUREMENTS WILL BE DONE WHICH SHOULD LEAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMLEX PREDICTION MODELS.
