Objective
The overall objective of the project is to design, construct and test the concept of a fuel-staged combustor, to demonstrate a major enhancement of current lean premix technology. This is required as an enabling technology for high efficiency (>60%), flexible, CCGT to overcome the problems of combustion induced thermoacoustic pressure pulsations.
The specific objectives of the project are to demonstrate:
- Base load NOx emissions of below 10 ppmv firing natural gas and below 25 ppmv firing liquid fuels such as distillate oil at full engine operating conditions;
- Thermoacoustic pressure pulsations of less than 0.3 % of total operating pressure over the full engine load rang;
- Simplification of the engine commissioning procedure;
- Elimination of fuel line purging;
- Easy adjustment of the fuel-staged combustion system to different ambient conditions and engine operating requirements.
