Objective
Improvement of our Company's knowledge of hydrocarbon deposits of the greater Epanomi area (30 km south of the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece) will be pursued through the execution of this project.
This will be accomplished by doing several geological (sedimentological, petrophysical, paleontological) analyses, by evaluating these new data as well as all already available well and surface data and secondly by doing reprocessing and special processing of areas's selected seismic data and finally by trying to construct a geological model of the Epanomi area to help define more precisely its hydrocarbon potential.
Low quality natural gas has been tested in Epanomi area in the last two years in tight, low primary porosity limestones. As the economics of gas production in this area are not yet positive a need arises to investigate further in the geological and geophysical areas.
This project will be composed of three phases.
In the first phase carbonate environment and structure will be determined, since allmost of the target areas consist of reefal reservoirs either of Jurassic or Eocene age. The conclusions of this type of work will be extrapolated to the palageographic setting of the wider Epanomi area.
A sedimentological model will be attempted to be constructed including features like : i. Slope lithologies
ii. Identification of the relationships between the depositional
environments and reservoirs and between diagenesis and reservoir rock development.
iii. Determination of the useful indicators for different facies units.
iv. Identification of reservoir heterogeneities.
Inphase two of the project reprocessing and special processing of about 200 km will be carried out. Data are 60 fold Vibroseis seismic data recorded and processed by DEP-EKY during 1989 and 1990. Reprocessing and special processing will consist of:
Wavelet extraction, dip move out stack (DMO), zero phase real amplitude processing up to time migration, velocity analysis using Horizon velocity analysis technique (HVA), calculaion of seismic attributes, amplitude versus offset calculation (AVO), zero offset ray tracing modelling, depth migration and seismic inversion of selected seismic sections. Three components VSP will also be acquired in new wells of the greater Epanomi area.
All reprocesssing and special processing including seismic inversion will be carried out at DEP-EKY's processing center in Athens using Western Geophysical's software.
In the third phase all results of stdies, analyses, evaluations acquired in the first two phases of this project as well as in previous yearswill be integrated to help us construct a geological model of the area.
