MODULE ISOLATION CONNECTOR - OFFSHORE TRIALS

Objective

The objective of the project is to undertake the necessary offshore trials to begin the commercial exploitation of the MATE Connector. It is the intention of Alpha Thames to involve oil company operators and offshore installation contractors in the planning of the trials procedures to ensure that all specification requirements are met. Alpha Thames will negotiate with operators throughout the project of endeavour to secure a first field application on the basis of successful trials.
Prior to the commencement of this project, the detail design for the MATE Module Isolation Connector was completed and a set of engineering detail drawings was produced. This phase produced a design for a connector with the following features:
- The connector is able to connect up to six 8" diameter pipes and four 4" pipes through a vertical, self aligning connection.
- Each half of the connector is valved to contain process fluids on disconnection, reconnection and allow a system to continue running whilst modules are retrieved to the surface for repair.
- The two halves latch together mechanically to contain internal line pressures and to provide a structural connection capable of resisting module and side current loadings.
- The valving feature will have a mechanical fail-safe interlock to stop ports being opened when the connector is separated.
- The connector is designed to be piggable.
- The connector has full metal to metal seals, and a 7500 psi test pressure rating.
- Process pressure loss across the connector is negligible.
- Actuation functions are hydraulically controlled with secondary back-up.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
