Objective
ARTMEDSAT is an Accompanying Measure designed to explore the adaptation of satellite vessel monitoring systems (VMS) - currently limited to large professional and industrial vessels - to the arzisanal fleet in -the Mediterranean Sea. The project will bring together in a workshop: fishery experts on the artisanal fleet, environmentalists, experts in satellite navigation, communications and maritime electronics, of Greece, Italy, France and Spain, to determine the optimal method for adapting VMS techniques to the physical and technical limitations of artisanal fleet.
In particular, a combination of artisanal fishery data, environmental parameters, satellite position monitoring and mathematical modeling will be considered. The final objective of this Accompanying Measure is to formalize an innovative approach to VMS for artisanal fleet that can serve as the basis for a Fifth Framework RTD project as well as to identify the ideal team of partners to execute that project.
