Workshop for identification and staging of mackerel and horse mackerel eggs

Objective

The objectives are to conduct a 1 week workshop in Lowestoft (England) with the participation of technicians and scientists from eight European nations to:
1. compare statistically the performance of identifying mackerel and horse mackerel eggs in plankton samples
2. compare the staging performance of the individual technicians and scientists with regard to the developmental stages of mackerel and horse mackerel eggs
3. improve the identification and staging performance by teaching and repetition
4. to demonstrate the improvement statistically
5. to improve the assessment of mackerel and horse mackerel assessment
6. additionally for those participants being involved in histological analysis of the gonad samples a 2 days-comparison of histological sections on atresia and fecundity shall be conducted directly after the egg staging workshop is finished.
