Objective
Aquaculture is often promoted as a solution to declining supplies from wild capture fisheries, but it remains reliant on capture fisheries for feed in the form of fishmeal and fish oil. This reliance has caused many to question aquaculture's sustainability. The debate has become polarised and controversial.
The SEAFeeds workshop will address these questions, and provide an informed and objective synthesis to serve as the basis for rational policy development and further research. The workshop will draw together key stakeholders in European aquaculture, feed manufacture, scientific research, and environmental management. Participation in the workshop is supplemented by much broader representation in a pre-workshop electronic forum and a post-workshop electronic de-brief. The project will generate broadly agreed conclusions and recommendations including agreed sustainability criteria for aquaculture feeds.
