Objective
The current fishery methods have resulted in an overexploitation of the natural available resources. This overexploitation led to the development of production of fish in conventional production systems in open waters. Governments will limit this development through regulatory measures because of: 1) untreated effluent discharge, and 2) escape of cultured fish Therefore highly efficient ecological, economical and social sustainable alternative production systems are needed. This project objective is to develop a design concept for a new innovative recirculation system for saltwater. In this way it will be possible to produce salt water fish on land preventing over fishing of the seas. By developing a closed water cycle with a combination of new feed and purification technology a completely closed system will be developed, which minimises the discharge of nutrients to the environment; towards zero effluent systems.
