Objective
"From Genes to Treatment" - a conference to report latest research on TSC. Lay representatives of Tuberous Sclerosis Europe will relay their experience of the genetic disease. A European Consortium cloned the first gene in 1993. During the 1996 conference in Bath, UK this expanded to an International Consortium which nine months later cloned the second gene. DNA test are now ready for service use. The two genes are involved in cell cycle control, and molecular biology explores their role in cell biology and slow growing cancers. Expanded clinical research on neurological, behavioural and somatic aspects of TSC is in progress with many European centres involved. The conference will marry all these aspects of research and experience of TSC, increasing understanding of the mechanism of TSC and leading to new treatments to alleviate the distress caused to sufferers.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
