Role of first trimester doppler assessment of fetal ductus venosus flow in screening for aneuploidy and congenital heart disease

Objective

The applicant is expected to improve his capabilities in planning and managing a large-scale clinical research project in fetal medicine. In particular, besides refining his skills in fetal ultrasound, he will be expected to assess the role of a new diagnostic tool in a logical and stepwise sequence starting from standardisation of the method and verification of its intra-and inter-observer variability, through definition of reference values, its inclusion in a multivariate analysis of risk, ending with its definite application to fetal aneuploidy and heart; defects screening programmes. The participation into the project will allow the applicant to be proficient in all these aspects of clinical research, and to reach a high level of quality and experience in fetal medicine research. The host institution will take advantage from the collaboration of a young researcher already experienced in the techniques involved in this study and dedicated full-time to the project.
