Techniques for gene manipulation, targeting and delivery in the central nervous system

Objective

A workshop of duration nine working days will provide theoretical and practical (including hands- on) instruction in techniques of in vitro and in vivo gene-manipulation and delivery of transgenes, both directly and using suitable cell vectors, into the mammalian central nervous system. This is the first practical workshop of its kind, and addresses a need throughout the EU for advancement of molecular genetic research and therapy of acute injury, progressive neurological disease and degenerative conditions affecting the quality of life of the aging population.

Theoretical knowledge and practical skills will be transferred by a team of experts, including 12 international guest presenters, to 27 participants. The strategic educational mission of the workshop will be propagated through a 2-year follow-up scheme for participants, and a research and training consortium formed by the presenters.
