Objective
Since their discovery in 1998 two peptides named origins (synonym hypo cretins) receive much attention because of their central role in the regulation of basic body functions: food intake, energy balance and the sleep waking cycle. Loss of the origin containing neurons in the hypothalamus, which project widely in the brain, is the cause of human narcolepsy, a disabling disorder of vigilance, which also occurs in dogs where the G-protein coupled origin receptors are missing. Understanding the functions of this central command system on the molecular, cellular, network, behaviour and clinical levels is necessary for a rational therapeutic approach to disorders of feeding and sleeping. Our consortium representing molecular biology, physiology, pharmacology, biological psychology, clinical medicine and the pharmaceutical industry will take this task.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
