Objective
The project will test an innovative intervention which aims to enhance the quality of life and independence of persons disabled by severe mental illness by directly placing and supporting them in competitive (as opposed to sheltered) employment. It will test a particular intervention, Individual Placement and Support (IPS), against standard rehabilitation and vocational services in six European states through a randomised controlled trial. The impact of returning to work on participants' quality of life, clinical well-being and social functioning will be tested, as will the cost implications of the intervention. Discovered interstate differences will be related to the employment and welfare legislation in each country.
