Objective
The future in Europe for major sectors of research and commercialisation in the life sciences now hinges largely on their acceptance by the public reciprocally interlinked with their support by opinion formers and decision makers. Engagement and communication between science and public is recognised to be key but there is great uncertainty about how they can be best achieved effectively in practice. The objective therefore is to hold a series of four advanced workshops in Western, Northern, Southern and Eastern Europe respectively for representatives of the major groups from the various social research, interest and cultural perspectives to focus on the central question of "Who should communicate with the public and how?" in the public and political debate.
