Objective
The Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) is well known for their extensive use in the preparation of fermented food products. In addition, the potential health benefit they may exert in humans has been intensively investigated during the last century. However, the mechanisms underlying the health promoting traits attributed to LAB, especially lactobacilli, remain vastly unknown which has impaired the rational design of robotic screening methods with accurate predictive value. As the probioticarea corresponds to a rapidly expanding market, the DEPROHEALTH project first aims at establishing a correlation between inviter tests and mouse models mimicking important human intestinal disorders such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Helicobacter pylori and Rotavirus infections. As these diseases correspond to major public health problems, second generation probioticstrains with enhanced prophylactic or therapeutic properties will also be designed during the project. These designed strains and the isogonics parental ones will be used to unravel mechanisms involved in the immunomodulation capacity of specific Lactobacillus strains.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
