Objective
Currently, genotoxicity testing must be performed in the laboratory, which is both costly and slow. There is a need for improved methods capable of, rapid on-site analysis for quality testing of food, pharmaceuticals and environmental aspects such as industrial wastewater. The proposed system will be compact (hand portable), low-cost and capable of extremely high sensitivity. It will enable, for the first time, the performance of sophisticated genotoxicity assays on-site with immediate (approximately 1 hour) results. No such systems are currently available. Detection will be based on the innovative integration of novel fluorescence detection methods and instrumentation based on the so-called "comet assay". The detection system can be used for testing of plants, foods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, for medical applications, radiation biology, human monitoring and for environmental monitoring.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
