Objective
The project will focus on the detection, risk and management of Provirus B19(Parco B19) infection in Europe. The risks associated with Parco B19 infection cane significant for certain groups. Maternal infection during pregnancy can cause congestive end heart failure, hydrous foetal is and foetal death. Inimmunocompromised patients, infection can cause severe anaemia. The scientific objectives will focus on studies relating to the virus itself (the non-structural protein and its role in infection, culturing the virus in vitro) and on aspects of viral infection (the link between antibody levels and immunity). Variants of Parco B19 will be investigated. New diagnostic tests will be developed for the B19 virus itself (DNA diagnostics) its variants and for antibodies elicited by the virus(as).A blood products screening programme will allow for the provision of products which are Parco B19-free or contain immunity-providing levels of antibody.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
