Objective
The Path Chip project proposes to identify genes critical in host/pathogen interactions by studying pigs infected with Haemophilic paresis. We will find the relevant genes by identifying genes that are differentially expressed during infection. Pigs of different genetic backgrounds will be experimentally infected and host and bacterial RNA collected from different sites at various times post-infection. Microarray technology and subtracted cDNA libraries will be used to find the differentially expressed genes. Sequencing of these differentially expressed bacterial and host genes and the use of sophisticated bioinorganic tools will be used to determine the proteins these genes encode and biological pathways they control. This information will provide a rational basis for developing novel anti-infective and methods for identifying disease resistant animals.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
