Objective
the present number one threat to human health is recognized as being the previously unseen levels of multiple antibiotic resistances that exist in bacterial pathogens. The development of new antibiotics is of crucial importance. Unfortunately, the mechanism of action of commonly used antibiotics is not fully understood. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of antibiotic action and resistance will make the rational design of new drugs possible. We aim to elucidate the structural origins for the action and resistance of a class of antibiotics, the macrolides. They interact with the RNA component of ribosomes and inhibit protein synthesis. The latest generation of macro ides, the deltoids, exhibit high activity againstmacrolides-resistant bacterial strains . A combination of genetic , biochemical and structural tools originating from different groups will be use used. Structural data will be essential for the development of new therapeutic agents.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
