Determination of amino acid patterns as diagnostic markers for human infectious diseases

Objective

This proposal is aiming at the introduction of a novel technology for determination of Amino Acids in human samples. The entire amino acid composition in human samples varies depending on the physiological state of the body. Infectious diseases create a complex disorganisation of the immune system. The strong correlation between the specific amino acid pattern and the course of the infection will be mastered by this innovative technology. The data produced will be collected in a European network database, which will be accessible by diagnostic institutions and organisations. The technology should allow a better assessment of the health risk of infectious agents and will set up new standards for the development of efficient monitoring. The dissemination of the technology will lead into new strategic patent applications for Europe. A rapid transformation into new marketable products will enable economical success and will generate new employment perspectives for the EU.
