Dynamics of the evolution of antimicrobial drug resistance (DEAR)

Objective

To predict the development, spread and reversibility of ant microbial drug resistance we need to understand the different microbial, host and treatmentparameters that determine rate and trajectories of these processes. This application is aimed at experimentally defining these parameters. Thus, we will determine which factors are important for determining
1) the rate of antibiotic resistance development, and
2) the stability of antibiotic resistance. In addition, we will
3) examine strategies to slow down the rate of antibiotic resistance development by altered treatment regimens. Results from this application are expected to help in describing, predicting and preventing antibiotic resistance development in significant human pathogens.
