Novel approaches to induce mucosal immunity against tb using the combined adjuvant strategy of cta1-dd and iscoms (ISCOTB)

Objective

This is the continuation of a highly successful EU project that has contributed greatly to our knowledge of how to construct novel adjuvant systems. We achieved proof of principle, showing that a mussel vaccine adjuvant, with greatly augmented potency, can be designed by combining the enzymatic ally active cholera toxin derived CTA1-DD immunoenhancer with immune stimulating complexes, ISCOMS. This technology is now patented and we propose to explore its potential as a mucosal TB vaccine. To this end, we have added a well renowned ISCOMS patenting and producing company and a research group with a strong track record on research on Mycobacterium infections and vaccine construction. For reasons of safety, efficacy and cost, mussel administration of a vaccine is a priority for immunizing against mussel and systemic infections. Recent progress has identified the mussel route as superior to other of TB vaccine administration.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
