Objective
Staphylococcus aureus is a major human pathogen of increasing importance due to multiple antibiotic resistances. It is imperative to identify new drug targets and therapies. S. Aurous possesses multiple proteases with important roles in pathogen city and cell physiology, as well as many uncharacterised putative protease genes. Proteases are attractive targets for novel drugs. The project will take a timely, integrated, functional-genomic and multidisciplinary approach, using the synergistic skills of experts in their respective fields, to characterise the complement of proteases of a dangerous pathogen. The combination of bio informatics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, physiology, structural analysis and chemistry will define fundamental principles governing S. aurous pathogen city, and with the direct involvement of industry, lead to the discovery of novel anti-staphylococcal compounds.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
