Diagnostics and control of rodent-borne viral zoonoses in europe

Objective

We focus on rodent-borne viral zoonoses in Europe with emphasis on hantaviruses. Rodents are the reservoir of hanta-, arena- and cowpox viruses, and may also be that for Borna disease virus. Close and long-term interaction between virologists and zoologists is a prerequisite for our successful research. In Europe, the hantaviruses Puumala, Dobrava and Saaremaa cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. We aim to learn more about the epidemiology of viral zoonoses in rodents, transmission to humans, and human epidemiology in Europe. Large-scale epidemiological studies may define long-term consequences of hantavirus infections. Rapid "bed-side" diagnostic tests will be developed. Reverse genetics, new animal models, characterization of humoral and CTL response, HLA haplotypes, other host genetic factors, and cell biology of virus infection will be studied to understand the pathogenesis and to develop antivirals.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
