Objective
There is a growing awareness in the scientific and public health community that multi-resistance against antibiotics is an increasing threat. This pandemic is caused by the inappropriate use of antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine, and often the lack of hygienic standards in health care facilities. Presently, the organisation and coordination of research efforts is insufficient to lead to the required scientific breakthroughs. The focus of the project ROR is to investigate the scientific and operational feasibility of a structured approach of the European research efforts, taking into account all existing initiatives and future needs of research and surveillance-activities, and to describe the critical conditions for an effective and purposive joint European research policy. It will lead to a European Road Map for future research actions in this field for policy-makers, researchers and industry.
