Objective
The research area of the doctoral training concerns the fields of functional and structural genomics, which are the genomic scale enterprises of characterizingthe structural and functional properties of the gene products. The specific projects for the proposed training are:
- Development and application of proteomics methods for large scale separation and characterization of proteins involved in specific cellular processes. This involves efficient protocols for measuring CD-IR spectra of separated proteins and the development of novel fold recognition procedures based on a comparative analysis of these spectra;
- Developement of theoretical methods for the prediction of protein/gene function. These methods will use state of the art statistical approaches, and will combine sequence information on related proteins and groups of genes, with detailed analysis of available structural information on protein-DNA and protein-protein cognition.
