Objective
The main objective of this proposal is to exploit the molecular knowledge ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall for high throughput screening of antimicrobialagents. To this end, the activity of a consortium of 10 laboratories (one company, one SME and 8 public research institutes) will be to convert the molecular data unessential gene targets involved in cell wall cross-linking, remodelling and chitin pathways into assays amenable to drug discovery programs, and to apply genomics, proteomics and bio-informatics techniques to identify new targets through the characterisation of the cell wall compensatory mechanism which is triggered when cell wall is weakened by drug treatment, stress or mutation. The deliverables will be the production of assays for high throughput screenings, and the expected goal is to find novel ant fungal molecules acting on the designed targets.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
