Objective
The analysis of the interaction between HPV and cell cycle/transformation regulators will afford me the opportunicy to broaden my knowledge of virus biology, and to learn about the molecular and cellular biology of cancer. The host laboratory experience in skin cultures will allow me to master keratinocyte techniques. Moreover, the close collaboration with the Royal London Hospital would facilitate the pathogenesis analysis of HPVs in NMSC development, allowing a better understanding of the results obtained in the laboratory. The research proposal will provide important molecular evidence of the potential roles of HPVs in NMSC development . Understanding molecular events which underpin the transformation of keratinocytes and the involvement of cutaneous HPVs in this process will facilitate the development of specific agents aimed at blocking viral functions which ultimately result ot better patient care.
