Relationship between ultrafine and fine particulate matter in indoor and outdoor air and respiratory health

Objective

The study intends to improve exposure assessment for ultra fine particles and assess the effect of improved exposure characterization on estimated health effects. Measurements of particle number counts; PM2.5 and PM10 will be conducted simultaneously in indoor air of 40 homes, directly outside the homes and at central outdoor site. The association between outdoor and indoor exposure to airborne particles characterized by particle number counts, PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations and respiratory health of sensitive subjects will be assessed. Respiratory health will be characterized using home pyrometer, CC16 (biomarker for lung damage) and respiratory symptoms. The study will be conducted in three European cities.
