Objective
Metal working fluids (Miffs) are working materials extensively used in the whole metal working branch (production of automobile parts, tools, machinery, all kind of metal work piece). Miffs may cause occupational diseases (skin irritation, allergies, respiratory and carcinogenic effects). Occupational health standards and hygiene conditions are differing widely within Europe. Sees from the metal processing area (MWF users) and MWF producing Sees alike have major problems in assessing possible occupational health effects. The project will deliver toxicological assessments for Miffs and their components, criteria for the health evaluation of Miffs, and a user-friendly tool-kit for the selection of products with low health hazards. Expected benefits from the project will be reduction of occupational health effects, economical benefits for MWF producers improved products) and MWF user alike (reduced sick- leaves, less waste, less machine downtime) and a contribution to European wide occupational hygiene standards for Miffs and to a more uniform market.
